Apophyllite

Apophyllite from India is one of the most famous and desirable mineral specimens, especially due to the high-quality crystals found in regions like Maharashtra. Indian apophyllite is known for its striking appearance and exceptional clarity.

Apophyllite is a hydrated potassium calcium silicate fluoride mineral. It belongs to the phyllosilicate group and is often found in basaltic volcanic rocks. Apophyllite typically forms in tetragonal crystal systems, meaning the crystals often have a square cross-section. The crystals are usually transparent to translucent and can be highly lustrous. Apophyllite is most often colorless or white, but it can also display soft shades of green, pink, or even brown, depending on trace impurities. The green variety of apophyllite is particularly prized by collectors.

The basaltic volcanic deposits in Maharashtra, especially in regions around Pune, Nasik, and Jalgaon, are world-renowned for their high-quality apophyllite specimens. The Deccan Traps, a large volcanic province, have created ideal conditions for the formation of apophyllite and other zeolite minerals.
