Apophyllite
$285.00
Apophyllite is a collection of phyllosilicate minerals closely related to zeolites, renowned for their remarkable clarity and intriguing crystal formations. These crystals typically develop in prismatic, blocky, or tabular shapes, frequently exhibiting well-defined faces and often appearing as cubic or pyramidal structures. Apophyllite can also manifest as drusy aggregates on a matrix. While the mineral is predominantly colorless or white, it may also present in hues of green, pink, yellow, or brown. The crystals feature vitreous to pearly luster on their cleavage surfaces and range from transparent to translucent, with some specimens nearly as clear as glass.
Apophyllite is primarily found in the cavities of volcanic rocks, such as basalts, and within hydrothermal veins. It commonly associates with other zeolites, including stilbite, heulandite, and natrolite. Notably, some of the finest specimens are sourced from regions renowned for zeolite minerals, particularly in India, where large and well-formed crystals are frequently extracted.
